I visited New Zealand for the first time in late May 2001. I needed medical treatment and was being sent there by my insurance company.

It was to be a personal reawakening for me.

Arriving in Christchurch I gazed out at snow capped mountains and wondered what lay beyond. I recovered in Auckland and with physical and creative energy renewed traveled to Rotorua, the heart of the North Island. Half the pictures you see are the result of the magical mixture of foliage and mist which exists in this volcanic region. The other half are the result of my discovery of what lay beyond the mountains in the heart of the South Island on my return visit in March of 2002. The mystery that is created by the clouds and their interaction with the landscape of that region.

The Maori call New Zealand "Aotearoa", the land of the long white cloud. From this my exhibition takes it's title, for it's the interaction between water, in it's many forms, and the mountains, their magic and mystery, which I've tried to capture and express in this work.

This work represents a completely digital set of pictures. The computer is my digital darkroom, a lot less messy, but still requiring the patience and methodology of a regular darkroom, Sharing my work with as many people as possible is very important to me, digital production and the internet has helped me achieve this.
